Drama provides the teacher with a wide range of techniques and strategies which can be used in any classroom. Objective can be to enhance students’ confidence or stage fears or arouse awareness about various issues such as corruption, values, customs, and traditions. In order to achieve such objective a teacher can organize drama classes for the students to improve their language skills, confidence and get rid of audience fears the students may be facing. Teaching language through drama is very effective because it gives a background for listening and helpful in improving linguistic skills thus. It provides opportunities for reading and comprehending. It is very useful in teaching literary texts as it helps in organizing plot, character and style. It also involves active participation of the students. The other thing I have learned that through motivating students we can build confidence in the students by encouraging their new ideas and by giving them equal opportunities to work together I coordination. Debates can also be used to give students a clear understanding of the topic. When the students get the idea of the topic they can get more ideas and can think in different ways to use that knowledge.   Â

Assessment Task 2
‘Drama offers the teacher a wide range of techniques and strategies which can be applied in any classroom and in almost all subject areas.’ How would you as a teacher apply Drama strategies when you are in the classroom?
Introduction
I have practiced a variety of techniques during this play building process based on Medea with Janet. I can understand the importance of Drama. Drama develops in the students’ personal and social skills and Learning and Understanding skills as well. Drama promote in students ability to explore ideas, use the imagination, body language and facial expression. In this way it is a sort of self-evaluation. Drama is important also for enhancing in confidence in students.
Techniques and strategies
Drama can be used for all subjects in different steps of lesson plan like warm up, development, and conclusion and for summarizing as well the lesson. Mostly it is appropriate for language and literature. There are different techniques, strategies or activities which can be used in the classroom. First of all it is very important for the teacher to create friendly. Students can feel relax which will increase interest and will improve their learning skill. Then some physical exercise can be ideal. Students can be given some debating task on which they can have discussion in the classroom. Role-plays can be given by asking the students to select some current issues or they can find for example some quotations which will be the reflection of their society’s values, culture and problems. Each student participates in different types of activities. For example some can be a narrator, other can act, and other can be comedian also when there is some tragic presentation. This kind of role can make the atmosphere pleasant. Teacher can ask volunteer for different roles so teacher can help the students to discover the unknown abilities they have. These kinds of activities are helpful for cognitive development. Giving students’ different research task can be used in order to increase their knowledge. It helps students to be responsible and to adopt habit of extra study at home. Teacher can play a role of actor and can give the role of trader, business man, banker or property dealer. This can be very effective for economics lesson. This kind of opportunity would be helpful for the students on order to improve their artistic skills. Drama can provide opportunity to a teacher to discover the interests, inclination and potentialities of the students.

Due Date: 23rd February 2007Drama offers the teacher a wide range of techniques and strategies which can be applied in any classroom and in almost all subject areas for example a teacher’s objective is to enhance his/her students’ language skills such as speaking and vocabulary then he/she can use drama as a strategy. Another objective can be to enhance students’ confidence or stage phobias or arouse awareness about various issues such as corruption, values, customs, and traditions. In order to achieve such objective a teacher can organize drama classes for the students to assist them in achieving language skills, confidence and get rid of stage phobias the students may be facing. An attractive alternative is teaching language through drama because it gives a context for listening and meaningful language production, forcing the learners to use their language resources and, thus, enhancing their linguistic abilities. It provides situations for reading and writing. It is very useful in teaching literary texts as it helps in analyzing plot, character and style. It also involves learners more positively and actively in the text. As Wilga Rivers (1983) states, “the drama approach enables learners to use what they are learning with pragmatic intent, something that is most difficult to learn through explanation.” Introduction
To teach drama to the students, I will introduce the topic to the students after a careful planning. I will then provide a worksheet to the student and ask them to write their understanding of drama, what they know already know about drama. I will then divide the students in smaller groups and ask them to exchange their ideas about drama. The smaller groups will write their responses on a given butcher sheet and present their ideas about drama. I will then give example of great play writers such as Shakespeare, Euripides and Barnard Shah. I will also tell the students about the history Greek drama.
 Activity:
The activity is to demonstrate power, poverty, humility, shame and honour in
Pakistan studies
Technique
The students will be asked to walk in a circle and chant the idea of ‘power, humility, power, shame and honour’ three times and as they finish chanting they freeze with an action that demonstrate the above mentioned ideas.
This activity will give an opportunity to the students to speak, act and express their feelings in actions.
Â
Role-play can be the best activity that may provide an opportunity to the students to express their feelings and performance in actions. The teacher will give a topic ‘Child Labour’. The students will be divided into 4 groups of six students in each group and will be asked to discuss in the respective groups. Group ‘Pepsi’ will mine, group ‘Kangaroo’ will perform verbally and with actions, group ‘Dolphin’ will compose a song about child Labour and they will act out. This will improve the performance of different groups. The group will be listening and watching each other’s performance.

Drama also provides cultural and language enrichment by revealing insight into the target culture and presenting language contexts that make items memorable by placing them in a realistic social and physical contexts.
Drama is not only used for teaching language but also other subjects. Many techniques can be used for teaching it.

There are other ways and techniques, which can be used in the classrooms to teach the students and no doubt they learn but drama has its own beauty and its own effects and through drama students learn more. Drama gives more chances to the students to broaden their thoughts and ideas, it develop the thinking of the students.
Techniques and strategies
While teaching drama which techniques and strategies a teacher can use; In the beginning of the class teacher can ask the students that what are their views on drama, students will share their views on drama. After that teacher can give one situation to the students to perform, first of all students will be given 7 to 10 minutes to prepare the role-play and after that they can do role-play. Another technique can be that teacher can give written dialogues to the class to read and after reading; they will produce their own dialogues and will act.
Teacher will ask the students to watch a drama but that drama will be without sound, after watching the drama students will write their dialogues according to the situation and will perform, after the performance students will again watch the original version of the drama. By doing this activity students will be able to create new ideas and will broaden their thoughts.

Various strategies and techniques can be used for teaching drama. Firstly discussion about the drama with students and give more informations about it. There can be debate on the issues which are mention in the drama. Secondly there can be role play; it can discuss with students how they want to do the role play. If their ideas are accepted they are more interested to do and they will participate fully. Third strategy could be the narrators will narrate the dialogues of the players and they will just perform the actions according to their characters. The drama can be contextualize with the present issues in the society. The teacher can use any technique to transmit the message of drama. It depends more on the teacher’s creative and ability of involvement of all the students.

Various techniques and strategies could be used in the classroom to make drama interesting for the students. It depends on the teacher how interesting he/she can make the lesson. Firstly I will divide the characters of the drama among the students and ask them to read the dialogues from the text book of their respective characters. Second strategy could be the students will perform the role play by using their own dialogues according to their own understanding of the text. Third strategy could be the narrators will read the dialogues and students will just perform the actions according to their characters. Another strategy could the students can record their own voices by using their dialogues on the tap recorder. Students can play the tap recorder and perform their actions. These are the simple strategies which can be used during my teaching practice, because within short time students can follow these strategies and enjoy themselves.
