“Medea is an evil murderess, even a mad woman, therefore Jason is justified in his attitude towards her.”The fact that Medea is an evil murderess is true as from the play we see that she is plotting revenge. She does the most evil thing known to man, that is “murder” Firstly she goes against her own brother, just for the sake of Jason, she kills him to obtain the “Golden fleece.” Then she kills King Creon and his daughter who is married to Jason, just so she can teach Jason a lesson. We can also truly say that Medea is a mad woman because she also kills her own two children. After all what kind of mother would want to kill her own children? Medea also sees herself as the giver of life as she feels that if she has given birth to her children, she has the sole right to kill them. Her evil and cunning side is further revealed when, she also plans with Aegeus that she would live as an exile in Athens. She continuously bargains with him that if he allows her to stay in his country, she will prepare a portion, which will help him have children. So while she is plotting to kill she is also making arrangements for her future.Jason’s attitude towards Medea is justified, as he knows perfectly well what Medea is capable of. Jason was only looking to be accepted in society and to have a comfortable life. So all he wanted was a secure future, which was acceptable.
